I have always had an advent calendar for as long as I can remember. It was a glittery snow picture with doors that opened to reveal Christmas images, a bell, a cracker, a robin etc. I would have the same one every year. We would close all the doors after Christmas and put it back in the Christmas decoration box until the next year. When I was about 10 or 11 my Nanny (Mum's Mum) bought a really special one that was the same shape as a shoe box. Stars were cut out all over the lid and the advent doors were either side. When you peered through the long slit in the end you could see a layered nativity scene. It was magical especially if you held it up next to the light.
Nowadays we have the chocolate version. This year they were 3 for 2 in Woolworths so I bought 6, one for Andrew, Gemma, Matt, Lisa, Liam & Elena. A few days later Gemma came home with a Simpsons one for me so I wasn't left out :O) I'm really pleased about this journal entry as I get to write how extra special my 2006 advent calendar is.
