We only ever used to have a Christmas Tree when we were first married. Then we bought 2 dangley things that we hung in the alcoves either side of the fireplace. Each year we added more and more and never stopped, so consequently, 22 years on, we have accumulated quite a bit. I love making decorations, so we have quite a few home made ones. I put branches in the windows and hang baubles etc from them. I put silver or gold painted pine cones, a couple of baubles, and other bits and pieces in a large stemmed glasses to decorate shelves. The glasses usually have shiny beads draped all around the edge which spills over onto the shelf and something tall coming out of one side like a silver sparkler thingy you get in cocktails. I get my ideas from the stores like John Lewis or M&S as they usually have fab ways of decorating the shops. It's the only time of year I can be extravagant & OTT.
BUT and it really is a big but, the more you put up the more you have to take down and put away. It takes us about 4 days to get everything sorted out. We don't continually work for 4 days we just do a bit at a time to make it enjoyable rather than stressful :O) We took all the outside lights down on New Years day and they are in the garage at the moment. The plan is to store them in the Wendy House. Our artificial tree belongs to Mum & Dad who bought it and realised it was too big for their bungalow (lucky us). This year they don't want us to take it back so we are putting it in the loft space with the inside decorations. The tree in the conservatory was a real tree so that will be taken to the recycling skip at the Lions car park. What do I feel like when the last box goes in the loft and the door is closed ~ thank goodness that jobs done for another year!! It doesn't put me off getting them all out again though, I wish I could keep them up all year but I don't think we would appreciate them as much, or that's what Andrew tells me
