One of the best trips we have been on in Jamaica is rafting down the Martha Brae. The photos just don't do it justice. It is soooo peaceful and laid back. The water looked dirty but Elena had a plastic cup and filled it from the river and we were so surprised how crystal clear it actually was. Each bamboo raft is made by the raft captain and lasts about 12 months. There is a list of rafts so each one takes its turn sailing down the river. This sounds ideal until you know that if they aren't very busy the captains can go 3 or 4 days without any work. As you can imagine they are very grateful for your trade and try and sell carved pots made from ??? to supplement their wages. The pots are actually very beautiful ~ little pieces of art themselves and a unique souvenir. We were serenaded by 'Tarzan' singing some Bob Marley songs as we floated down the river.
