Tony Blackburn with Arnold the Dog
Tim & I manage a holiday park so we talk a lot and not always about work. The other day we were talking about what we had done over Christmas and I mentioned the opening of the stockings. He told me that when he was a child it was the only day him & his siblings were allowed in their parents bed. We wondered why that was and came to the conclusion it was born out of necessity. Back then (& I'm not that old) we didn't have central heating and our house was freezing. Mum would be first up to sort out the fire so we could run downstairs into the warm to get dressed. We came to the conclusion that we got in our parents bed on Christmas morning so our Mum's could skip this daily chore until we had opened our stockings.
I remember getting into my parents bed every Sunday morning. I always cuddled up to my Dad & my brother cuddled up to my Mum. My Dad would bring up a tray the night before with 4 cups with coffee, sugar & milk in them and a full kettle that he would plug into the wall at the side of the bed (bearing in mind that the milk would have been warmer sat in the fridge overnight lol). Then in the morning we would have a cup of coffee in bed and listen to Tony Blackburn & Arnold the dog (woof, woof) on Radio One.
