Funny Cards

Before I take my birthday cards down I just wanted to keep this one for prosperity as I think it's hilarious.

My best friend (from School) Nicky sent it me. We never forget each others birthday as we were born on the same day. She has always had a wicked sense of humour but we never see each other as she lives in Leeds. I wrote this journalling ages ago as I was going to make a scrapbook page about her so instead, I'll post it here :O)

When I was young I had lots of friends but it wasn’t until I went to the comprehensive school in Chapel that I actually had a ‘best’ friend.

Nicky Standring came from Whaley Bridge and had a twin sister called Joanne. In 2nd year we were told we had to sit next to each other and the rest, as they say, is history. We had a great time together and got on really well. We seemed to have so much in common including our birthday – 19th March. Nicky came from a very musical family and as I had played in the band at Girls Brigade, she encouraged me to join the school brass band. I always felt she was cleverer than me but she would never say anything. She was always there to help and she would do anything to make me laugh. We went camping once to Hulme End. It was my mum and dad’s idea. They stayed in the caravan whilst Nicky and I stayed in one ridge tent and Joanne and her friend Susan Rigby stayed in another. It rained one night and Joanne’s tent leaked, so Mum and Dad went home and let us stay in the caravan. We had a great time. We stayed best friends right through school and never fell out over anything. When we left school she moved to Amersham, near London with her family but still we kept in touch. I went to stay with her for a week, it was the first time I had gone anywhere on my own. She took me to see the James Bond film, ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ and, a day or so later she took me to the theatre to see ‘The Mouse Trap’. It was the first time I had been to see a proper play and it was great.

Now we are both married with children and although we don’t see a lot of each other we still keep in touch at birthdays and Christmas. We have been to stay with them in Wakefield and they have been here to see us. She is still the Nicky I knew and loved and when we are together I don’t think we will ever be old. We still reminisce about the good old days – they were some of the best times of my life.
