Ooo I'm so chuffed {grin}. We try and recycle as much as we can but I know we are capable of more. This week the IOW County Press (our local weekly paper) has had a big article on 'Making Your Home Composting Easier'. Starting with ordering a 330ltr compost bin (made from 100% recycled material) for £9.00 with free delivery from recyclenow !! Well I'm very happy to say, Andrew has agreed it's a good idea, so it's been ordered this morning and within 28 days we are going to be the proud owners of our very first compost bin :O) You should see the stuff you can compost (& I quote) ... Like any recipe, your compost relies on the right ingredients to make it work. Good things you can compost include vegetable peelings, fruit waste, teabags, plant prunings and grass cuttings. These are considered “Greens.” Greens are quick to rot and they provide important nitrogen and moisture. Other things you can compost include cardboard egg boxes, scrunched up paper and fallen leaves. These are considered “Browns” and are slower to rot. They provide fibre and carbon and also allow important air pockets to form in the mixture. Crushed eggshells can be included to add useful minerals. I can't wait :O)
We recycle all our glass & Aluminium. We take all useful items like clothes etc. to the Charity shop, we even recycle stamps and take them to the post office for the guide dogs!! The IOW rubbish tip is fantastic, it has one skip for each type of material ie. wood, paper, metal etc. & even has a place to take your garden waste which is composted and sold back to the public. How cool is that.
