Egg~citing day today, it's what we've been planning to do for weeks - walking the pub trail from the Griffin in Godshill to the Fighting Cocks in Arreton & back. According to the tourist information guide it's approximately 5 miles & should take about 2 hours. So we set off to Godshill armed with the book, the camera, a drink, money (for the pub lunch) and my sun hat (I'm always burning my head, which ends up with big flakes of skin peeling off a week later looking like giant dandruff, yuk!!).
So we parked in the car park and read "Exit Pub turning right along road for 300 yards turning left onto track signed Moor Farm". Great, no problem at all :O)
"After 10 minutes turn right at sign, keeping to dirt track. Exit onto Bathingbourne Lane, past farm house and left into Macketts Lane and right at sign A19. At road turn left to Fighting Cocks". Really Egg~cited now. Checked the watch ~ 12:10!! We carried on walking past the farm house and the country side opened up to reveal loads of pigs, more pigs than I've ever seen before (up close & personal anyway).
First there were some really big porkers then medium size ones and the further we walked the smaller the pigs were right down to some of the cutest piglets ever. Of course we took loads of photos.
Checked the watch 12:27. Right OK, where is the sign where we turn right? We kept walking, saw no signs at all, apart from a stick in the shape of a letter 'Y'? Was this a sign??
Carried on walking, saw lots of sheep busily munching through a field of cauliflower stalks. Still no signs???
Met a couple on bikes coming towards us and asked where the road led and they said Merstone!!! Only one thing for it, turn back the way we came and have lunch at the Griffin. We couldn't see any signs on the way back either *rolleyes*. We went to the Griffin but decided we didn't want to stay so we ended up in one of the tea gardens which was much nicer. Had hot sausage & onion baguettes and then went to another tea garden for pudding, a Mr Whippy Ice Cream with a flake - yum!!
Walked round the village and went up the hill to the church to take a photo of the thatched cottages. It's the photo they always put on the calendars & postcards :O)
Walked down the steps back in to the village and wandered round the gift shops.
Walked through the gardens to show Elena the water otter and then back home.
Really enjoyed it. Here's a couple more lovely photos that we took today.
