To walk or not to walk ~ that is the question!!

Well, the sun is trying it's best to peek through the grey clouds today, whether it will win or not remains to be seen? We decided not to go for a walk whilst Elena was at drama this morning because it still looked a bit 'ify'! Instead we pootled off to Tesco to get the weekends veggies and ended up spending £90!! Luckily, we now have a menu for the rest of the week, which is good news :O)
Elena came home from drama with a newsletter saying the trip to the London Museum is booked for the end of May. The drama group have managed to secure some funds from the Lottery so it won't cost a thing! The last time she went to London she was way too small to remember, so it should be quite an adventure :O) The women who run 'South Wight Youth Theatre' are all volunteers and they do such an amazing job.
Had lunch and decided the weather wasn't too bad, so we went to Shanklin to walk along the old railway track to Wroxall (Elena wanted to take her bike). The path starts at the side of Lower Hyde Holiday Park on Languard Road. Being built for the railway it's quite a flat & easy walk with lots of bridges to walk under and over. The only thing you coud hear above the wind were the Rooks. Water was trickling down the foliage under the archway of the bridge, It looked so bizare, I just had to take a photo :O) It was a bit muddy under foot in places, due to the amount of rain we've had over the last few days. This is Andrew's footprint as evidence {lol}. The rest of the track wasn't too bad, all things considered. Elena spotted some cowes in a field and tried her best to tempt them over with some grass, but they weren't interested. She carried on cycling, complaining that the track was too bumpy!! It's a wonder she managed to stay upright the wind was so strong!! We suggested she try and cycle round the bumps instead of going straight over them! {lol} Andrew spotted a Red Admiral butterfly and I was so pleased, I actually managed to photograph it before it flew away. Some places the track was wide open to the elements with beautiful views of the countryside either side and in other places it was like walking through a tunnel of trees. The one thing we noticed more than anything (apart from the wind) was the greenery. Everything was so green with the odd splash of colour from the wild flowers.Andrew even pointed out Freemantle Gate to us as we passed some bungalows on the outskirts of Wroxall village. We walked through Freemantle Gate on Monday when we walked from Godshill to Appuldurcombe. We got to the end of the trail where the old railway station used to be. Now it's a timber yard so we turned round and headed back. Elena had had enough of riding her bike so we told her we would go to the sweet shop in Shanklin as a treat on the way home. That soon got her pedalling again {lol}She took a photo of us.On the way back we passed Cooks Castle Farm, (we hadn't spotted it on the way to Wroxall??!!) it's where Gemma & Lisa had been horse riding when they were younger. And I spotted this in one of the bugalow gardens {lol} another weather vein!! This one made me giggle!!The cowes we passed earlier had given up chewing grass and were having a sit down.We are so lucky. There's so much countryside on the Island it really is a beautiful place to live. Even the rabbits love living here {lol}.Then you'll never guess what, the clouds cleared and we were back to gorgeous blue skies and sunshine, the wind died down and it was lovely and warm!!You could tell we were getting closer to Shanklin as all you could here were the Rooks!! Andrew said it sounded like being outside Hagrid's cottage in the Harry Potter film! Told you he is Harry Potter mad :O) He managed to take a photo of their nest, he's got a steadier hand than me!Got back to Shanklin and on the opposite side of Lower Hyde Holiday Park the men were having a game of Bowles ~ how very English !!It was so lovely to get out of the house and walk, I didn't think I'd miss it that much but I have. I have to confess my legs were aching a bit after walking 6 miles but I felt so much better and so did Andrew. As promissed we took Elena to the sweet shop and look what I spotted on the shelf ~ ROFLOL.
