Culver Down

We're feeling much better today because we've been for a walk. Andrew & I have come back feeling de-stressed & much happier :O) We drove up onto Culver Cliff, parked the car in the car park next to the monument and walked down toward Sandown. Today is the Round the Island Yacht Race, 100's & 100's of boats take part & it is quite a sight to see. They must have thought themselves blessed as the wind was really strong. Looking at the photos you would think it cloudy and cold but the it's been a very warm day :O)The line of boats stretched as far as the eye could see right from Culver to Shanklin & beyond Ventnor point. Today I wished I had one of those cameras with the 2' lens attached to it as I'm sure you could get some wicked photos. Culver Cliff is so dramatic, some of it is a sandy colour & the rest of it white chalk ~ stunning! We walked over very short grass on the cliff top. It was FULL of wild flowers all very tiny but beautiful colours. Andrew & I always walk hand in hand but sometimes I try and walk behind him to take photos and he always turns round to see where I am ~ lol! The views of Sandown & Yaverland were stunning. We found a gate post in the middle of the field with a hole in it, so I could resist :O) Getting a bit close to the edge!! It's OK but I wouldn't like to slide down on my backside ~ lol! Most of the land that we walked on today is owned by the National Trust so it can never be built on :O) How cool is that. There were lots of brambles and teasles. As we got closer to sea level the wind wasn't quite as strong and the view disappeared now & then. Not sure if it was sheltered enough for a tent though? I hope they don't sleep walk or they will end up falling off the cliff!! As we got into Sandown we walked passed Browns Golf Course passed the Dinosaur Museum and walked along the sand. There were quite a few people on the beach, some flying kites, some building sand castles. Even the birds were enjoying the warmth :O)The warning flags were out saying it wasn't suitable for bathing. The things you see when you go out walking! This guy was just starting up his mini hovercraft! Whilst we sat outside the pier eating a Mr Whippy ice cream, on the next seat to us was a man knitting a jumper, whatever next!!!

We decided we hadn't got time to walk home so we walked up to the Town Hall where Elena has her drama lesson and picked her up. We walked back over the cliff path and home. After lunch Andrew drove the car back up to Culver to pick up the Nissan. There weren't many boats left in Sandown Bay, they were nearly in Ryde.
Just gotta share this story with ya :O) Walking home across Cliff Path Andrew said, "there's a change in the wind says I," (a quote from Pirates of the Caribbean). Well that started me and Elena off, saying things like, "we named the monkey Jack" said in our best pirate voice and everyone laughing. We walked through the gennel at the end of the road and I exclaimed "OMG the bus has gone!" (we had parked it in the car park on Culver if you remember) and Elena said, quick as a flash "Why's the bus always gone?" ~ ROFLMAO!! You just had to be there, she's definitely got a wicked sense of humour that girl :O)
