Advances in Technology

The advances in technology over the past 30 years have been phenomenal.

When I was a kid, I would walk down to the telephone box at the end of the road where we lived, just to phone my Nanny (Grandmother). When I was about 14 my parents decided it was time to have a phone installed & today every member of our household has a mobile phone & if that isn't enough we have a land line too.

I can remember only having 2 channels on TV, BBC1 & ITV and it was all in Black & White. There was great excitement at my parents bringing home a colour TV & then even more excitement when my Dad bought home a game of Pong where a square white ball would bounce across a green screen. The aim being, to hit it to your opponent with a white line that you controlled with a dial!! Now not only do we have a million channels courtesy of Sky TV but Andrew, Gemma, Lisa & Liam have laptops. Another computer sits in the dining room & Andrew has bought home yet another one (an old one from work) for Elena. We have a DS, PS1, PS2 & Liam has an X-Box 360 and everyone wants a Wii.

I can remember having a radio for Christmas. I must have been 10 or 11. I tuned into Radio Luxemborg every night because the music was fab. They played all the up to date songs as far as I can remember lol. Then, with my first wages I bought a second hand record player with a tape recorder. It was huge but I didn't care. I could play LP's & taped music to my hearts content and when I listened to Ian Dury & the Blockheads, my Dad would shout upstairs & tell me to, 'turn that racket down' lol. Now we can fit a thousand songs onto an iPod that is an inch big and carry it around in our pocket. CD's have taken over LP's & minute earphones have taken over 3 foot speakers

How old am I?? By reading the above you'd think I was ancient but I'm only in my early 40's. OMG I can't wait to see what the next decade brings ~ can you?
