Bembridge Harbour to the Crab & Lobster

Loads to talk about today, flippin' loads *lol* OK, last night at work, not too bad, we checked in the majority of the Rugby club before 10pm. The men are OK, a bit demanding, but OK. Their wives however have to be the most stuck up bunch of women ever, saying things like "If I'd known my husband had booked an old caravan, I'd have upgraded immediately!" (said with a distinct smell under ones nose). God they make you laugh, we've tried for weeks to get the money out of them for the balance of their holiday, the last one paid up finally on Sunday !!! :O) A bit of a funny though. At the bottom of our holiday park is Sandown High School and just recently the kids (bless them) have been walking through the site to the shop and dropping copious amounts of litter on their return. This drives everyone mad, not a shooting offence but annoying just the same. However the last couple of days the little darlings have taken to picking up the biggest rocks and stones and throwing them over the wall into the outside swimming pool. It's causing a lot of damage but worse than that, much worse, these missiles could actually kill someone. Did you know, over 100 people a year are killed by coconuts falling out of trees and hitting them!!! Can you imagine then, a stone as big as a small coconut!! Well this had to be stopped immediately if not sooner. So, Tim & Jack had a code to shout over the Walkie Talkie if these lads were spotted. Tim saw them first, radioed to Jack and in a flash one of them was caught and marched, forth with, to the reception. The head teacher of the school was called and he came down immediately. Another radio message came through from Collette in the club to say there were another 3 lads and these too were caught and taken into reception to the head teacher. A good telling off later and the threat of police involvement soon had the lads regretting everything. So hopefully that will be the end of that. As Tim was telling me all about these exciting happenings, Kerri said "yes, all we could hear was Tim saying, Little Ducks, Little Ducks!" To which Tim burst out laughing and said, I wasn't saying Ducks!! ;O)

Saturday morning ...
We were woken by the doorbell this morning which can only mean one thing on a Saturday ~ the postman. Gemma got up and answered the door and that was that. Andrew showered, got dressed etc. and went down stairs. I followed him into the bathroom and had a shower too. As I walked into the kitchen he said (with the biggest grin ever), " We've had some Harry Potter post!" Harry Potter is Andrew's favourite along with Stargate & James Bond! This is what he was on about, and I quote ...
The Goblet of Fire, Chapter 3 ~ The Invitation: "Look at this" he growled, he held up the envelope in which Mrs Weasley's letter had come, and Harry had to fight down the laugh. Every bit of it was covered in stamps except for a square inch on the front, into which Mrs Weasley had squeezed the Dursleys address in minute writing. "She did put enough stamps on then," said Harry.
The package was from Wilna, you can see the contents here. Can you believe the generosity of this wonderful lady. I hope to do a similar thing very soon, as Ty Pennington says on Extreme Makeover Home Edition (No, not 'move that bus' lol) pay the kindness forward!!
Thank you so much Wilna, it is absolutely gorgeous, I love it!! Great big hugable hugs to you and your family :O) Back to the heading of this post ~ Bembridge Harbour to the Crab & Lobster. That's where we walked today, in the 3 hours whilst Elena's been at drama. We finished our walk last week at Bembridge Harbour so we parked the car the other side of the river and continued onward. We didn't follow the costal path signs, instead we kept to the shingle beach and walked around to the next bay. It's another one of those places where you say wow, I've never seen anything like it before!! The beach was full of old groynes (or at least that's what we think they were), old tree stumps & drift wood. All in all a very woody beach :O) Some of the groynes were covered in seaweed and looked very perculiar indeed. They reminded us of the 'Little Mermaid' film when Ariel goes to Ursula's cave and all the mer-people have been turned into old & wrinkly forms of their previous selves or maybe something off Doctor Who or maybe weird looking stalagmites!!

The beach had quite a few of these strange looking objects, filled with water, on it as well as an abundance of cuttle fish. If you know what it is please let me know :O)

We have found a new mode on the camera ~ digital zoom!!! Andrew used it to capture this boat sailing across the horizon. Looks like 'One Eyed Willy's' boat from the film 'The Goonies' *lol*I took this one as it sailed past Bembridge lifeboat station :O)
Just look what Andrew spotted on a garden fence near the lifeboat station :O)
It's a weather forcaster!! I adore quirky things like this, just read it, it'll make you smile *roflol* These weird huts were next door. Not sure if they're beach huts or what? It's Saturday, gorgeous weather, about 11:30 am and nobody was there, not one person. The grass has been so perfectly manicured too ~ spooky!!! We walked round the corner of the lifeboat station and the beach changed again. It looked totally different. According to the OS map this bit is called Bembridge Ledge??!! Some of the beach had shingle on it as well as sand but towards the waters edge was this stone ledge covered in seaweed. Carried on walking along the sand and some horses went trotting past. We never usually see horses on the beach, don't know why? The coastal errosion is so prominent along this stretch of beach. Bembridge Coast Hotel is just beyond the wall. Andrew said it will be called Bembridge Sand Hotel in a bit, or Bembridge Beach Hotel or even Bembridge Undersea Adventure *lol* Then, as we were laughing we turned the corner and OMG, strike me down with a string bean and call me Bob!!! Just look at this amazing, scrumdiddlyumptious view of Culver Cliff!!!

Carried on walking a bit further, didn't know where we were and then Andrew spotted a sign saying Crab & Lobster Pub. We knew we must have been nearing civilization as little buildings were popping up as well as a man made sea wall. This view is from the same spot as above, looking back the way we had come :O)
Just look at the colour of these little beach side houses ~ gorgeous. We spotted a little cafe that sold ice cream - yummy!! Another favourite, Mint Chocolate Chip :O)We walked up the steps near the cafe. The cold ice cream was lovely as we felt a bit sweaty (not that I'm complaining about the heat you understand). There was a car park at the top, a perfect spot to begin next weeks walk :O) We turned round and walked back. We caught sight of a heron but I didn't realise how big they are. I had to use the digital zoom again as I couldn't get any closer without getting my feet wet *lol*Then he flew off and I tried my best to get a photo. Didin't realise there were 2 of them :O)Reached the spot where we had began our walk this morning with about 10 minutes to spare. This fountain is at the entrance to that stretch of beach. It's called the The Palmer Memorial This is the weather vein from the top of the fountain (I love weather veins :O))And this is the Pilot Boat Inn! It stands opposite the memorial and you can't really tell if it's a boat or a building :O) Can't wait until next week :O)
